I wash them down with mineral spirits(paint thinner) and 0000 steel wool.Dry them with a soft cloth and apply a coat of lemon oil with 0000 steel wool and let as much soak into the wood as possible. Then polish with a soft cloth. Make sure your pilot lights are off on your kitchen stove when you do this procedure Good Luck !

I would use a product like Mr. Clean in a 2 to 1 ratio. After the cleaning was done I would HIGHLY recommend HOWARDS FEED N' WAX, you rub it directly on the wood, or on a rag, cover the cabinet completely with product, move onto the next one, repeat process, then return to first cabinet and polish off with a separate rag. Sounds time consuming but it really isn't. The end result will be fantastic! Clean and better than ever!! FEED N' WAX, is available at Home Depot. This product is one of my FAVORITES, I use it on all my antique wood furniture. It has a pleasant orange il scent. It also will not irritate your skin.

Unfortunately anything stronger then Murphys Oil Soap will probably take the old wax or finish off the cabinets, leaving them looking dull and lackluster. I would make a strong solution of Murphy's oil soap and warm water, then scrub the cabinets up using a very soft brush, then let it sit a minute or two before rinsing/wiping them down. They will probably require a good coat of Pledge after the cleaning.

I recently cleaned my oak cabinets with Soft Scrub. My cabinets were also greasy and grimey and it worked great. It isn't abrasive so didn't mar the cabinet surface and cut through the grease easily. good luck...

I use ammonia.
ammonia will clean your wood cabinets. it removes all the grease and grime quickly.
when you are all done you can use a product called " counter top magic" it is where you get the furniture polish, your cabinets will look brand new again.
good luck

I find that clorox wipes or some kind of grease cutting cleaner work well. You really gotta put elbow grease into it though.
Toothbrushes really help scrub them also.
