A book you might want to pick up is "Healthcare for Less" by Michelle Katz. The book is mainly about how to save money in healthcare. I have learned a lot of simple ways to save money from this book that I had no idea that were out there. The author emphasizes the relationship with your doctor as being one of the best ways to save money! She dedicates a chapter on how to choose the right doctor, and some of the websites she references when choosing a doctor that I found helpful were www.abms.org, www.docboard.org, and if you are a Medicare patient and want to check out your doctor go to www.medicare.com under "Consumer Assessment of Health Plan Survey." You should also check with your state medical board. The book was about $15 at my local Barnes and Noble and totally worth the investment!

If you have health insurance, their website should have a list of recommended doctors, their credentials, education, etc. All sites don't have performance ratings, but with the info they provide, you can make a pretty good choice on what doctor to see, or not.
