different styles, its kinda like asking if pies are better than cakes. it all depends whats inside them and what you like.
both are great, but they're not the same type of guitarist.
kirk has speed and a pretty vicious pick attack, whereas Slash has a little bit more of a blues rock base and has a much more "loose" feel to his playing.
but, that doesnt make either one better or worse, they're different types of players, thats all.
there are ppl that will say hendrix, rhoads, frehley, page, clapton, or beck are the best because they came before either slash or kirk and influenced them. others will list guys like joe pass, or django, and those guys are great too (even though they're not rock or metal). there are great players in every style.

It's not a question of who's better. There is no basis for comparing the two of them. They have completely different styles. Kirk is all about speed and thrash. Slash is bluesier, but he is also much more versatile and can play many different styles equally well. Kirk had a mentor (Satriani). Slash was totally self-taught and developed his own way of doing things. They are both excellent guitarists. I am still a life-long Slash fan!

That is a toughy! I will say Kirk for speed, but Slash for style! But MY favorite guitarists are:
1. Jimi Hendrix
2. Jimmy Page
3. Angus Young

Slash.....but only because he was raised a few miles from where I come from in Stoke-on-Trent. I like November Rain though.
To be honest, I've never even heard of Kirk Hammett.

What kind of question is that? KIRK!!!!!!!!! I also read this magazine the other day, asking 10 famous guitarists from whom they were influinced the most. They all said Kirk!

Slash was good but no more, metallica was also good but they suck now, but JOE SATRIANI is awesome, and the teacher of Kirk so i'll choose Kirk for Satriani.
