last year i was screened to get an ultrasound on my left breast because the doctor felt a tiny lump. When i got screened for it , they said it turned out to be a tiny cist that is sort of on my top breast near my shoulder. Well, last week, i had to get a physical done at a different doctor through the company i was just hired for. This doctor said she felt a lump in the same breast. I told her it may be the cist last year, but she wanted me to get screened again just incase. Im going to be screened later, will they tell me soon if its the same cist from last year???

Ask your doctor from last year to send your results to your new doctor, that should clear up any mystery. I go through the same thing....I have what they call "ropey breasts" and its how the tissue forms and I go for mammograms and ultrasounds regularly and have to say nooo thats an old lump. It is very frustrating to repeat yourself over and over again.

Although my specialty is respiratory medicine, I a fairly sure that a repeat mammogram will demonstrate if the lump that is there is related to a prior cyst. Comparison of the two scans can determine if the abnormalities are in the same place or not. If there is any question as to whether the 'new' finding is a remnant of a prior cyst, a simple needle aspiration would differentiate between a cyst and a cancerous growth. Generally, the scan itself will make that determination. It's always safest to go ahead with a repeat mammogram if there is ANY question about the new findings. Early detection of breast cancer (if that is what they find) has very high success for complete eradication.

Good luck to you. I would say the odds are definitely in your favor, as cysts are very common, especially in women of childbearing years.

It's a good idea to get it screened for sure, but sometimes results take a while and waiting is the worst. I'm a breast cancer survivor and when I found the lump I was shuttled from one doctor who referred me to someone for a second mammogram and an ultrasound, to another who'd do a needle biopsy and then I waited almost ten days before I got results. It was maddening. I hope you get your results quickly and that all is well. You'll be in my prayers.

Don't be afraid it may become as the cyst from your previous year. It is good to do examination for these lumps in the breast.
