The adults live from half a month to a month in the wild, or longer in benign laboratory conditions. Not required, but very interesting:
Flies have a very highly-evolved evasion reaction which helps to ensure their survival. It is possible to confuse a fly's evasion system by swatting it with two objects simultaneously from different directions. The holes in a fly swatter minimise the air current which warns the fly of being hit, whilst reducing air resistance and increasing speed of the swat. This evasion reaction can also be used against the fly. Clapping your hands several inches above the fly will cause it to try to escape, usually into your just closing hands.

all different species of flies have different life lengths, but your probly asking abotu the Common House Fly which in that case the life expecancy is between 3-4 days tops...
one cool thing, catch a live fly hold it under water (drown it) then lay it on something and cover it completely with salt...after a couple minutes uncover it and presto the fly is return to life...works all the time

I am not sure, but I know this bar trick
were you catch a fly and drown it in a glass of water
you take it out of the water, and put it on the bar.
and like its dead, not moving at all, and you bet everyone
for 100 bucks you;ll bring it back to life.
collect the money 1st,let them touch the fly, it will not move
it;s dead.
then take a salt shaker, unscrew the lid -and pour salt on the fly.
and I mean cover it pretty much with salt
and in about 4 minutes it will start to twitch, then it will get up
and fly away.
I have seen it done-many times, and i have done it many times
it works every time....

Hey there, have you ever seen the movie Bugs Life? On there they have a fly that says "I only have 48 hours to live and I don't want to spend them here" or something similar to that. So I think it is somewhere near 48 hours. You can always do a yahoo or google search on flies.

Under optimum conditions females houseflies (Musca domestica) can live up to 70
days, males up to 60 days. Larval and pupal stages take about 10 days of these
days.
Under natural conds life span is much much shorter down to 1-2 weeks as imagos
for both sexes.

The eggs are white and are about 1.2 mm in length. Within a day, the larvae (maggots) hatch from the eggs; they live and feed in (usually dead and decaying) organic material, such as garbage or feces. They are pale whitish, 3-9 mm long, thinner at the mouth end, and have no legs. At the end of their third instar, the maggots crawl to a dry cool place and transform into pupae, colored reddish or brown and about 8 mm long. The adult flies then emerge from the pupae. (This whole cycle is known as complete metamorphosis.) The adults live from half a month to a month in the wild, or longer in benign laboratory conditions. After having emerged from the pupae, the flies cease to grow; small flies are not young flies but the result of insufficient food during the larval stage.
