This just hasn't been a normal mentrual cycle, and I'm currently 4 days late (VERY unusual). I took a test two days ago and it was negative. I know it's totally possible for a grocery store preg test to be wrong, and I know I took it really early, so you don't need to tell me that, and yes, I will be taking it at a week late (unless I start before then), but I was just wondering how many others that's been the case for.
BTW, I'm 29, married with a 2.5 year old. Not trying to get pregnant, but would be THRILLED if I was:).

When I found out I was pregnant with my youngest, I had a hell of a time trying to figure out if I was pregnant or not. First a test would say negative, then positive, then negative again, then positive....on and on like that for about 10 tests when I finally gave up on those and went to see my doctor. I was an emotional wreck during those 2 weeks when I found out (it was over the christmas holidays, otherwise I would have gone to the dr sooner)

All I can suggest is take the test again in a few days, and see. If it still comes back negative, and your cycle doesn't start, go to your doctor and have them to the blood test.

Good Luck

False Negative Pregnancy

Yes. You can get false negatives but false positives are very rare (because they detect a certain hormone which only occurs in pregnancy and if it's there, it can only mean one thing) A false positive means that the stick could be faulty or there wasn't enough hormone in your urine for a reading. Buy another test and do it first thing in the morning when the readings would be higher. 18 days after a missed period is quite a long time to not get a reading due to low hormones though. They should be relatively high if you are pg. Either way, go to the doctors for confirmation. If you are ttc, good luck x

With my third one I got all kinds of false negatives! I must have used every test under the sun. I finally went to the doctor convinced I wasn't pregnant and had blood work done because all I wanted to do was sleep all the time! Come to find out he had done a urine test, which I already knew that turned out negative, but he also ran a blood test and it came back positive a few days later. I've never had that problem before with the home tests, but sometimes your levels are just too low to show up. So you're right in thinking you need to wait until you're a week late, good luck to you and yours!

I took an at home test 7 days before my period was due and it was positive. I was infact pregnant.

I used cheap tests and they were always right. But i know that my mom took a pregnancy test when she was like 5 weeks pregnant and it said negative.

Go to http://www.peeonastick.com and see all about false negatives/when to test/etc.

Good luck

My in-home pregnancy test confirmed my pregnancy before the pee test at the doctor's office did, but everyone's different. You should do one more test, as soon as you wake up. Your morning urine will be much more concentrated than any other time of the day, therefore, you will have more HCG (pregnancy hormone) present. If you still get a negative reading, have your doctor do a blood test. Wishin' you luck. :)

My husband and I were trying and I took like 5 or 6 pregnancy test and I was like a month late and every pregnancy test came back negative. I went to the doctors office and got a blood test and it came back positive. The doctor told me that my hormones weren't strong enough for the urine test to give me a positive result. But i was pregnant and I gave birth to a healthy little boy who is now two.

I have had a false negative pregnancy test. I just knew I was pregnant. The thing is, I conceive late in my cycle. So my hormonal levels are less at a week late than other women who conceive mid cycle. I was 10 days late, with a negative test. Three days later it came up positve. I hope it all works out for you! :)
