The classical greek festivals differented from those of classical Rome as to the way they were organized and their purpose.

For classical Rome mostly the purpose of the festivals was political i.e. the imperator wanted to increase his political strength by his announcements during the festival.

For classical Greeks the festival was a part of their political duties. Each year different people were elected to participate in the organizing committe of the festival. Additionally the citizens that attended the festival had the right to express loudly their opinion on every subject was related to the festival .
