Sorry I'm not going to pull any punches - it's your age, age discrimination is the most common form of discrimination. It is also now illegal in the UK and if that's where you are based then take the following tips:

Remove your date of birth from your CV and do not give your age on application forms.

Remove the dates from your qualifications and at a maximum include only your last 15 years work experience on your CV.

Wait to see if you get any interviews, if not then consult a decent recruitment consultant or careers advisor (paid for I'm afraid) and get them to help you jazz it up appropriately for the market.

Finally wait for the interviews to come in.

If you are rejected after interviews repeatedly it's time to call ACAS and sue the discriminatory so and so's. Lots of money very little effort. If not you have a job congratulations!

Good luck.

Hello, Joanne, can you provide more details? Have you worked RECENTLY in previous years? What type of jobs are you applying for? What is your level of education?

It could be a variety of factors. Age might even be a factor depending on what field you're interested in. It's not fair, and a form of discrimmination, but it does happen.

It's also possible, some employers feel you're over qualified, perhaps lack of experience if you have not worked recently? It's hard to spectulate based just on what you've posted. I'm sure you'll find something soon. Just remain optimistic and continue searching in confidence. I admire your ambition and determination.

what jobs are you looking for? it really depends on what field. maybe they are scared you will either retire soon or be lazy and take lots of medical leave. It may be that they dont want to hire someone who will need to be trained and then leave soon after... that to them is money wasted. The more interviews you get, the better, so they can see you and know that you can do a good job. i was once told of an older woman who came in for an interview very on top of her appearance and what she said, but the reason she didnt get hired is that she intimidated the managerial staff!

Some companies are not hiring for people close to retirement. Walmart is always hiring older people. Have you applied there?

Sorry to say but it's you age. Employers don't want to risk employing you. It's wrongs and in the UK it's illegal but it happens and I don't condone it.
