I still have 10 years until I retire from the military but I'm excited about starting a new career when I'm done. I really want to work with pets in some way but I need some suggestions on what I could do. I don't have any plans on going to college for anything and I'm not to concerned about making a bunch of money, just something that I'd enjoy and be around animals. What do u suggest?

Spend the next 10 years attending as many dog shows as you can. Not the fancy ones where they are looking for perfection in breeds, but in agility courses, obedience trials. read everything you can on dog training. You don't need a degree or special training. Then get a pup and put your new knowledge to the test. When you retire, you can train dogs either in their home or yours. For even better pay, train the owner to train his own dog. Don't give your sources, just show him what needs to be done.

People tend to be lazy. Even when they know how to do something, they would rather pay a "professional" to do it for them. Set your own hours and go for it.

Well, my ideal job would be with dogs and would only work if I lived in a larger city and I live in the boonies soo... Be a dog walker. There is nothing like exercise and spending time with a bunch of K-9's to make my day better. No degree needed, only a love for dogs...this would be a great retirement job too.

Doggie day care is a very big business. People will always put money into their pets. Depending on your age you could look into being a farrier or equine dentist. Animal chiroprators and massage therapists are all in demand. But daycare requires no training. You can run agility classes, grooming, sell fancy dog clothes and retail. My friend just got into it. They also host doggy weddings, and sell dog cookies cakes and treats. Good luck

Yes, I agree with the pet sitting answers. Also, a job in a vet's office that doesn't require going to school for the vet tech degree.

You could maybe check into working at a vet's office, or opening a shelter/ rescue for your favorite type of pet, or multiple pets if you have the space, and adopt them out.
