Halfords or Argos.
The law does say that if you have to pick up a child urgently, you don't need to use a booster seat. (it's also worth checking out Tescos - they sell everything these days)
If it is for your own children you do need to get a seat but if you're picking up your friends kids as a one-off you don't need to get a booster seat

Check at your local police department. Many of them, especially in smaller towns have an excess of booster/infant seats to give away to people who need them. They also have technicians that are certified and can install them correctly for you in minutes. Just give them a call and ask for any car seat technicians, it can't hurt any.

Argos and toys r us have some really good deals on. I got my kids ones from there only cost £10 i think, and they say they are quiet comfortable.
