I don't think spanking should be used much, it should be reserved for things that were actually dangerous. I wish parents would treat kids a little more intelligently...

They remember actions more than words. They piece together their own idea about the world from what you do, so don't spank. Parents should start kids early on a good education, and behave in a way that is consistent..

If you say "do as I say, not as I do", then you are probably on the wrong track.

I believe that the method of discipline that the parent chooses to use is highly dependant on the culture that you’re living in. For example, in Asian countries, it is very typical to get beat with whatever the parent could get their hands on. Furthermore, while you are in school, your teachers take on the roles of your parents and they have a “right” to beat you as well. However, if you beat a child in the US, child services may come knocking and the parent may possibly spend some jail time. Like I said, heavily reliant on culture.
I personally was “spanked” but for personal reasons, I will not disclose with what. Also for punishment, my parents used to have me lift and hold various objects or stay in strange positions that hurt after a while.

Stay in your room until your father gets home. Those are the scariest words a child can hear. My stepdad was not violent about it. He used the belt that he has worn for as long as I can remember. I was told why I was getting them, how many I would get, and how long I would be grounded afterwards.

yes, my dad did anyway.. one time I threw a water balloon at a car and the driver stopped and chased me.. he never caught me cause I climbed up into my tree house, but my dad spanked me when I came down.. he just used his hand..

Yes and the practice should be brought back in farce. They would use there hand for minnor infractions and dad would use his belt for serious ones.
If parents spanked there kids more for the minnor things then we would not have so many kids in trouble

All the time, my father with a belt, my mother with a variety of things (like "switches"). And still I live. I wasn't the type of child who could have been disciplined by being deprived of things, and I have no doubt my parents did the right thing.

Not very often, they had this piece of wood that says "foolishness remover", we still have it and it still scares me. It was mainly my babysitters job to "spank" me. She would use a wooden spoon. I sometimes still shake when I see a wooden spoon in someone elses hands.

Yes, when I was really bad lashings with a belt, and it hurt. When I used foul language a clove of garlic in the mouth or soap.
