Super Bowl XLI in 2007 was awarded to Miami a long time ago but for Super Bowl XLIV, the game was to be held in New York City if West Side Stadium was to be built (where the Opening Ceremonies were to been held if NYC hosted the 2012 Olympics) but since NYC decided not to build the stadium and did not get voted by the IOC to host the Summer Olympics in 2012, the NFL looked at three candidates who did not get Super Bowl XLIII; Atlanta, Houston, and Miami and on October 6, 2005, Miami was chosen to be the host of Super Bowl XLIV in 2010.
