Actually, you do not 'need' to write thank you cards afterwards as people realize you are still grieving and don't expect them.
But if you're going to write them anyway, you could just write something simple like, "Thank you so much for all your support and understanding during our/my time of loss. Your kindnesses have warmed our/my heart(s) at a time when I/we needed it the most. Sincerely, ......" or something along those lines.

Just simply say thank you for your support and help during my time of need, everything that you have done for me have been such a great help and again thank you. I hope this helps and I am sorry about your loss.

Tell them it helps to know that they care about your and yours (me and mine) and that you appreciate family more when a member is lost.
