mother teresa (whoever) would have had some selfish drive telling her she was getting something out of what she was doing and that she was great because no one was like her. If she was compleetly selfless she would have never decided to do her own thing and she wouldnt have hade all those clothes to wear and food. she would have died before she got to be so uguly.
Did she even help the poverty problym or just the pore?

It's a cultural paradox. You need to be selfish at times in order to improve your quality of life, but if you are open about your selfishness, you are looked down upon. If you are selfless but are not open about it, people will walk all over you and have no respect. This originated from the rich and powerful, who used their resources to condition us (either through religion or, in modern times, the media) that selfishness is "Bad" and selflessness is "Good" so they could "Fleece" us and relieve us of our assets to their own benefit. Your ego is stroked when you do "Selfless" acts; it relieves the rich and powerful from that responsibility.

The trick is to do as the rich and powerful do: Be selfish, but make your selfishness appear to be selflessness.

the problem with Mother Teressa when she died , it was about the same time that Princess Diana died. Of course they went for the prettier of the two. Plus Dianas' death was more sensational than a woman who gave up her whole life for the sake of others.
Sometimes it has nothing to do with Selfish and Selfless, its which hind sight you are in to place that title upon you

Alright, we get what you're asking. Nothing's wrong, if anything that's good because you have to take care of yourself before you can take care of others.

Rather than get in a rut with that, think about balancing confidence with conformity. It is possible to put ourselves first while caring for others without stooping down to the other guys level. Just think about how IT DOESN'T MATTER who is more important; the bully who makes fun of weaklings or the weakling who's preyed upon others.

What does matter is who YOU are. Don't condemn the bullys but embarrass them or ever better, make them work for you. Don't save the weaklings, but educate them or even better, make them follow you. Now, you have peace and cooperation without having the problem of overloading your schedule trying to figure all the details to the world's problems.

Hold confidence in yourself, yet understand that individuality doesn't equal understanding. Sure it identifies who you are, but there are better ways to figure that out than telling the strangers of the world what you're all about in a fashion statement.

It is a matter of proportion and balance. If you don't take care of yourself, who will? But if you only take care of yourself, who are you?
