The operating system on the (Slave) drive is WindowsXP. The operating system on the (Master) drive is Windows98. Will this work & if so how do I access the "Slave" drive. I have it all installed and wire, and the computer knows it's there, I just cannot seem to access any of the files on that (Slave) drive. HELP?

if the hard drive is indeed being registered with the system, check the bios by booting up and pressing delete after the beep.
if it is registered there i dont know what the problem is. i suggest
the hard drives probably jammed, try tapping it iam no expert so do this at your own risk. there was a new virus out that wrecked the hard drive by setting the control arm to zero. also is the hard drive hooked to the hard drive wire feed and not the cdrom dvd feed.

Depends. If the slave drive is formatted as NTFS, you won't be able to access it from Windows98. Windows98 does not have NTFS support. The other way around will work: you will be able to access files on the Windows98 disk if you boot to WindowsXP.

Probably won´t work because XP uses NTFS as the standard filesystem, and Windows 98 doesn´t support this. XP can be installed usinf FAT32 but I won´t bet on it being installed on a FAT 32 partition.

You need to boot of an XP / Windows2000 CD or install floppy so you can access the NTFS partition and then copy the files from your XP slave drive to your Win98 drive using DOS commands.

Windows 98 uses the FAT type partitions on the hard disk. Windows XP by default uses NTFS. Unless you changed the partition type to FAT (which I doubt) when you boot with WIndows98 you will not be able to read the NTFS drive.

There are utilities that enable you to read NTFS partitions, but they are not meant for every day use.

Nope... it wont work. the XP drive has NTFS hard disk format wich is 4 years newer technology than win98.
ps
you have a couple of options here are two
1. ugrade the win 98 HDD to XP or Win2000
2. create a bootable cd wich uses caldera. this will let you access both disks in DOS and you can copy your files across.

Microsoft changed the details of its file systems several times. If the XP partition is NTFS, I don't think you can read it from 98.
