I moved from London to Yorkshire, and although to be honest I think the town is pants too, I have made some good friends. The trick really is not to worry about having friends but just to go out there and talk to people, listen to them and be friendly, just in everyday life. This will give you enough interaction to keep you going untill you make friends, and once you start talking and listening to people you will find you are making friends all over the place, then the town won't seem quite so pants. Although I would have to agree that I would still give my right arm to be back in London, but I love the friends I have here now

I'm in a similar situation after moving back to my home village (not even a town!) after uni. I joined a local gym and I've made quite a few friends there. They actually arrange social events too because they have a bar area and conference facilities etc. Its amazing the kind of people you can meet having a chat after a work out in the steam room!! You've even got the added health benefits of course!

I've made some great friends through Yahoo Answers even though I have yet to meet any of them! The good thing about meeting people here is that you can talk more freely than if you were to meet face-to-face and still be yourself. Age shouldn't make a difference among friends! Good Luck.

I cant make friends easily now either, but thats only cos i have a kid at 17. You should make a myspace/bebo or go on those websites where u can make mates. Also if you dont mind talking to common people il be your friend!

Go to the gym and make an effort to chat to people, including the people who work there.

Do a myspace profile and go to gigs etc of music that you like.

Basically chat to as many people while out and about as possible and go on dates with girls that you have fun with even if you're not sure that they're your cup of tea as you never know what could come of it.

Don't rule out the "uncool people" either!!

i'm 23 and have just moved to a small town and have no mates, it's horriable and like you i work from home as i'm setting up my own business so it's hard to meet people.

If you want a friend who's in the same boat give me an e-mail.

Try myspace.com, there's a tab 'groups' and that way you're more likely to find people in your area with the same interests
