Try getting rid of the mouse first. There are humane traps if you are concerned about it, or try mouse traps. Don't use posion because then you have to go hunt for the stinky dead mouse in the wall.
After the mouse is gone, but a metal-mesh (like chicken-wire) in the hole. Secure it with nails. Then use spackle to patch the hole if it isnt too big. If it is very big, then you may need to use a different form of plaster. You should be able to find a small tub of plaster mix at a hardware store. Put the plaster or spackle in with a spatula (buy one made for this, they cost about $2). Then let it dry and paint the wall.

Spun metal, also known as Brillo pads. The mice can chew threw them but will be sorry they did. Stuff the hole full of them. You can buy the cheap ones, it wont matter. Also, there are some without the soap on them, but I think they all about work the same. It keeps mice out by detering them from chewing through. Make sure you stuff the hole full so the mouse cannot push its way through.

Get a tin of expandable spray foam that you can just point and spray in the hole. It will expand on the inside of the wall and block the route.

I would get a humane trap or too to catch them. you would then be able to release them somewhere far away from your own home so they cannot come back. Your petshop should be able to sell you own. All other solutions may harm the mouse. Remember though you will probably have more than one!
