Wearing black to anything having to do with a wedding used to be against the rules, but anymore these days it seems as though anything goes. So, I think you would be quite fine to wear black to the reception and even the wedding if you like. Anyways, seems to me that most designers make their best dresses in black anyways, plus black is slimming if that's an issue. :)

I wore my LBD to my fiance's sister's wedding last year. It was an evening reception, so I felt like I fit the time. I'm glad I wore it, because I got a lot of compliments and I loved how I looked. I think that black is the best thing for evening -- I would have felt uncomfortable in any other color. If you wear a sad face, that'll look funeral-like. So go ahead, wear that little black dress!!

Black is fine to wear to a wedding reception, I am going to a friends reception soon and intend to wear a black dress with some colourful accessories. I asked the bride what she though and she was fine about it. Have a great time.

We went to a wedding this last weekend. Every female there from teenage cousins to the grandmother of the bride was wearing black for the ceremony and the reception. It started in afternoon and ended about midnight as far as was it an evening event.

If the ceremony is in the evening, then wearing black to both the ceremony and the reception is okay. If the ceremony is in the afternoon, stay away from black. Also, don't wear white. It can be considered rude since the Bride will be wearing white.

absolutely. But if it is formal/black tie trousers may not be the best option. The only colors I would not wear are white and red (bright red not a burgandy or brick shade). White for obvious reasons, red because it can look a bit garish.

have fun!

Absolutely. The later the wedding the more formal you go, and black fits that perfectly.

yes!

it used to be kind of a tradition to wear pastel shades, but not anymore!

my sister in law's sister got married this year and her bridesmaids wore black...it looked really, really good.

i'd say that the only colour that is unacceptable would be a white dress...unless you're the bride, of course!

why not? i have seen some really classy outfits at weddings with black. just don't dress from head to toe! accessorising is always the key! i always think that black and baby pink look lovely together especially if you are fair.
