You've posted some great questions, so I can see why this is weird to you. I recently asked a question about a song, and it seems almost everyone quoted me the Wikipedia information. One actually followed through to search out a bit more information. One person suggested an actual motivation behind the song. I appreciated that answer. I am looking for something deeper that caused the person who first recorded the song to connect with the words. I wanted to know if anyone really knows why the song was important to that person, personally.

Conversely, I don't like to use Wikipedia as a source when answering questions. I like to dig deeper into the reasons behind things, sometimes suggesting my opinion, backed by research that I have done. I usually spend LOTS of time researching before answering questions -- even the easy ones. I used Wikipedia as a source earlier today when trying to give a small foundation to my otherwise pretty unrelated answer.

I love Answers as a place to learn more about other people and their personal experiences. I like answers that give not just copy and pasted information, but experiential/anecdotal thoughts and information that enlightens me beyond encyclopaedic text.

For that reason, I tend to be lengthy in my response to what appear to be fairly straight forward, and sometimes rhetorical, questions.

What I wonder is: Why is Wikipedia still not in the spell-checker for the Answers site?

I don't believe it is laziness. I think the reason for the questions is sometimes they would like to see different perspectives or thoughts. Sometimes theories once proven can be debunct by others. Maybe because those asking the questions use yahoo answers to hold some conversation of sorts and this is the only way to obtain a conversation. But, maybe YOU are correct - maybe people ARE just lazy. :)

We only get 2, count 'em, TWO points. As for why people ask, well isn't it more FUN than Google or Wikipedia?

Most souls are "desperate" for attention. And most of those will do irrational things to get it.
