i really need help. i have a problem with my PC. for about a week or two every time that i try to turn ON my computer it does not recognise my Windows. I am running Windows XP Professional. I have to format my computer daily.. every time i turn it ON> i am thinking to leave it ON all the time...because i am tired of installing Windows again and again. I can't go to a service in the next future because of some personal problems. Is there anything that i can do ? to resolve this issue ?

I would apreciate if you answer this only if you know something that would help me. All SPAMS will be reported.

i am doing the full install. i am not good at computers and that is why i can't provide you information of the error that my PC is giving me. I can't make a print screen either. i know that would be helpfull. when i try to turn on my PC is not loading anything and does not work safe mode, last used settings that worked or anything. it's a black page full of wtriting ( i know it sounds silly ) and does not do anything to process, or to start. i am sorry i can't tell you more because i really do not understand it either.

It honestly sounds like your harddrive is dead...it's not holding the magnetic charge after the computer stops sending power to it.... That's my best guess...the solution is actually kinda convient...when you turn your computer off, as you have to reinstall windows anyways just put in a new hard drive and then reinstall and that should solve your problem....

I just wanna add that it's not a virus because nothing can survive a formatted hard drive and that it's not your copy of windows because if it were corrupted it wouldnt install onto your computer in the first place...also XP is a very versitile OS it allows itself to run even if one thing shuts down...so i really think it's your hd

Difficult to diagnose without more detailed error messages. I suspect you're getting something like:
"Missing system disk or operating system"
Most commonly this is due to a floppy drive left in the PC. Sorry to be patronising but that's the truth.

If not then it does sound like either your hard drive is kaput or the hard drive controller on the motherboard. There are a number of diagnostic utilities you could use to verify this. The simplist are checkdisk that comes with windows.

I suggest, though, that you re-ask with full and exact error messages, or if there are no error messages then please describe exactly what you are seeing on the screen during one of these failures.

There are so many things it *might* be but we really need more detail to do a remote diagnosis and offer anything more than guesswork.

it sounds to me that th ehard drive is having a problem, since it remembers while on but forgets when powered off it could need replacing. first thing i would check is run a scan disk see if windows recognizes any bad sectors and may be able to repair them. also run a virus scan cnet.com has top rated ones for free trials or just plain free go to the downloads section of cnet and search virus protection. i had one hit an older pc once that made it think my A drive was the harddrive. good luck
ps are you doing a full install of win xp or a repair install ? the repair will not often fix errors, do the full install reformat.

I think you have a problem on the boot sector of you hard drive, anyway try to get a hard disk manager and erase all the partitions on your hard disk then create a new one, and re-install your windows XP, if it keeps losing its information, definitely is you HDD, if not, well, you had a virus but it would be eliminated...

I totally agree with comptech0, seems to me your hard disk is saying sayonara.
Need to change it but don't go for the latest because I doubt your motherboard is compatable.
Hard disk are cheap nowadays.
I faced this problem a few times.
No matter how many times I format and reinstall, the problem seemed to increase in many other ways.

Run set up from the CD. At the prompt chose delete partition, then create a new partition. If you have more than one partition delete them all and create new ones. Format, using NTFS file system and reinstall the operating system.

Download and install the following.
All relevant MS updates
AVG virus scanner - free
Zone Alarm Firewall - free
Ad Aware Anti spy ware tool - free

Still not work? New hard disk, thinks I

Good luck

Mine did that too, turns out the hard drive was crashing and eventually did. You will need a new hard drive. They're not that expensive. I got mine replaced and they were able to save the programs and files from my bad hard drive and transfer them to the new one all for about $150. Don't keep turning your computer on or one day it will just stop all together. Get if fixed ASAP.

Try checking your registry to see if you have anything odd.
Un-install any programs that are not used, or you are unaware.
If this does not fix the issues, save any pertinent data on an external drive, and re-install your operating system. You will need your Windows XP disk for this.

The data that you provided is not enough for me to conclude anything. It could be a hardware problem. Either your memory modules have some problems, or your harddrive is slightly malfunctioning. Do a scandisk run on the hard drive and a memory test also.

Can you edit the posting with what kind of an error that you get on boot up that you have to reinstall. I can think of several solutions, but without knowing the error do not know which to suggest.
