I vacuum, clean, but nomatter what I do, my room always covered in dust. I can see little dust particles in the sunlight floating around when I get up in the morning. Is dust bad for my health? I notice I always seem to have a runny nose.

The natural state of things is disorder.
Dust is created from dead skin cells, pollen, etc.
This is a constant process.
Even if you cleaned a room, shut the windows and locked the door, you will see signs of disorder and accumulation of dust within a week.
Being organized and "dustfree" is a constant work in progress.

Where do you live and where might the dust be coming from?

In Barbados we receive tons of African dust every year - it is amazing there is any left over there from what I sweep up every day...!!!!

Yes dust particles can cause irritation in your nose, eyes and throat. Perhaps your furnace filter needs cleaning? Perhaps you have old carpets? Ever lifted an old wall to wall carpet and seen all the fine sand underneath?? No matter how good your vacuum is, it will not drag that up. But when you walk on it it puffs up.
That is why doctors suggest solid surface floors with area rugs that can be cleaned.
You might want to invest in a water air cleaner that filters the air through water based filters and or get rid of your carpets.
BTW> Don't forget stuffed furniture - it needs to be washed annually, also bed streads, blankets and so... these all collect dust too.

You did not mention if you had Central Air or not.. The air filter is extremely..... extremely important in reducing the dust particles in the air... I just had a new electronic/magnetic filter put on mine(a/c system) and wow.. I see no dust in the rays of the sunlight.. My system of a/c has a way that I can run just the air on circulating and that is what I do and it does the trick

also do u have a ceiling fan in your room? because i had noticed the same thing in my room. i even went as far as wiping down ALL THE WALLS! once i got to the fan i realized that most of the dirt was coming from all the built up dust on the fan & falling down on everything else.
