Actually a lot of rat owners who have had to deal with Myco use that method to make their rats more comfortable. While other rat owners may also yell at you for not taking your rats to the vet anyway or tell you that you shouldn't even have them if you can't pay for them, I'm not going to do that because I know exactly how you feel.
Anyway, continue doing what you're doing but if there is any way at all for you to buy a humidifyer then you should jump at the chance because it's more controlled than the steam from the shower is. Just make sure the steam isn't too hot or over-powering because if it bothers you at all, think of how much worse it could be bothering your rats.

Just keep what you are doing if that helps, until you can afford to take them to the vet.
