If they ban it, then it will become even "cooler"... for some reason, people insist on doing things that are "bad", even if they are actually harmful. They should at least provide free gum to players as an incentive to chew something less harmful.

they should allow it at all....It can cause some serious stuff. a couple of years ago my class had to watch this thing about smoking and tabacco and stuff and they showed this baseball player who use to chew all the time and now he had cancer and it spread to his throat and he had to get his chin removed..it looked nasty. I seriously wanted to write a letter to the MLB or something to tell them that...it also makes kids wanna do it too. high school players are doing just because they big leaugers are.

Because the people who play baseball are grown men. Most of the players that kids would "emulate" don't chew tobacco though.

Chewing tobacco is banned in every level of baseball, except the Major Leagues. Someday, it will probably be banned at that level as well, but the majors look at it like this...if the player wants to destroy his body by doing that stuff, then so be it.

But it is banned at every other level of baseball, from little league to Triple A in the minor leagues.

I hate smoking and think people who intentionally harm their body are pretty stupid and we shouldn't have to help pay for their medical bills when they get sick. On the other hand this is America and they have that right to do so as long as it doesn't harm someone else. I have no problem with them smoking or chewing. They are adults. What should we do, say they can't drink next.

As far as I knew tobacco was outlawed in baseball for that very reason. Only gum and sunflower seeds are allowed. Where did you see a player having a chaw?

Actually they do smoke just not on the field. they do it in the dugout or clubhouse in between innings. I don't think baseball owners should be your kids parents if you want your child to know right from wrong teach him don't let someone else tell you what to do or how to do it.

tigers manager jim leyland smokes a pack a game in the tigers dugout during games. the tv cameras are very careful never to get him on screen while smoking. earlier in the season brandon inge had an at bat that lasted 15 pitches before finally getting walked........leyland refered to it as the at bat that lasted one and a half marlboros.

Why are people so concerned about what someone else does? It's like Orwells "1984" and everyone is turning into "Big Brother" It's their life, their bodies, and even if they take a mouthful of s***, it's nobody's business.

They are growm men if they choose to do so so be it. they are just ball players, it is the parents job to educate their own children. even though it is seen by children and they look up to these players. They are human and make their own choices
