I noticed a question in this forum that referenced my acts of civil disobedence in North Carolina in opposition to their helmet law. To set the record straight there are NO points against your license or insurance attached to the ticket for failure to wear a helmet. Because most people get so caught up day to day living and don't pay attention to what there local, state or federal govt. is doing. Our society is like a herd of cows we go along with which ever way the bull is headed. Fred you should no that by heart by now.

Only bikers understand why other bikers choose not to wear helmets. Most people also don't know that helmets are only crash tested to 15mph. At an accident over 60, a helmet does little to no good.
Plus, I live in Phoenix, AZ, where in the summer it can easily get over 115 degrees. Imagine wearing a full face helmet in that heat. Now just think, a new study comes out that says "Drivers who drive with their windows up and their A/C and vent turned off (so no airflow into the car) are most likely to survive in the event of an accident." Would YOU roll all your windows up, turn off the vent and the A/C so you can survive in the even of a crash? Can you imagine how unbarable that would be? But don't worry, it's for your safety.

Bennett B - can you supply some facts or documents to back up your claim? Common sense and logic tell the average person that if an impact is hard enough to cause death from internal injuries then it's a pretty safe bet that an unprotected head would be scrambled in that same impact.

Fred - Keep up the good work. I don't agree with you on riding lidless, but I do agree that it should be left up to the rider and am tired of the gov't trying to protect us from ourselves.

You go right ahead and don't wear a helmet. I couldn't give a flying fig if you do or not because that's your right. But, if and/or when you get into an accident and get your brains splattered all over or are a parapalegic, you shouldn't expect the insurance company or the taxpayers to foot the bills for any of your medical bills becuase it was your own fault for not wearing a helmet in the first place.

Florida does not have a helmet law anymore. However, you have to have $10,000 comp. insurance if you choose not to wear one. Why would anyone ride without a helmet? Your head versus concrete or steel. Concrete and steel always wins. Good luck with that.

This debate is no different to me than the mandatory seat belt laws everywhere. No one's complaining about the click it or ticket campaign.
If a motorcyclist wants to become road pizza and not wear a helmet, I have no problem with it. If a person doesn't want to wear a seat belt, I have no problem with it.
I do wear a seatbelt, but it's personal preference and shouldn't be forced.

I feel that wearing a helmet has absolutely no affect on any one else's safety and it should be a suggestion.. not a law.

That happened in Florida and over 30,000 bikers rode without helmets to protest the law. They won too.

People should oppose that law, however if my kids rode motorcycles I would be a ball of nerves if they chose not to wear a helmet. But thats just it, it is their choice to do so or not.

I have no problem with people not wearing helmets.
I can't help but feel that your families are the ones that end up suing the hospital because they "didn't do enough" for you.
