Go traditional.
I'm going out to buy some black patent leather shoes and a ticket to Idaho right now...

This is of course a personal choice.
Going traditional offers you the traditional protection and confort of the kilt, nothing more or less. Many traditional kilts have several layers, so that is not bad protection, but in a stiff draft it might feel strange, and kilts really were not designed for use with chairs in rooms full of conservatives, so if you're a student...
Covering your boys allows additional protection against drafts, and may allow the use of a cup. Depending on the conservativeness of your locale, that may be an important product to keep on hand. However, you will probably want some rather fancy coverings if you believe people will be looking at them boys, otherwise, you may spoil the look of the kilt. With covering, the question of what to cover, and how also arises. Tighty-whities probably are too obvious, and too cheap to go well with a kilt. Boxers on the other hand may be too loose to provide any additional coverage. Thus, boxer-briefs, or man-thongs are probably the best bet.

well.... if your going to wear kilts, you should definitely go all the way and keep it traditional !.. your "boys" will be cool in the summer. and even cooler in the winter...lol.... just watch out for a breezy day !.... you may want to add a cover then... ( I recommend pink ! lol)

For god sakes cover them boys...no one wants to see "your boys"...that's the reason you wear kilts in the first place...

i think the decision is mainly what do you feel more comfortable with
i personally like traditional better
but if you are uncomfortable then of course cover them boys
BUT I THINK TRADITIONAL ALL THE WAY

cover them boys, that way no one can really complain...unless your at an all girl school, then go traditional.
