Solution:

First get Zone Alarm Software off of the Internet to clean up and protect your computer from possible virus content and eliminate intrusions into your confidential information.
Get rid of all that trash and you will improve the performance of your machine by 25 percent or more.

Second, get Spybot "Serach and Destroy" Software off of the Internet to scan your computer for software that tagged along with desired downloads, and reports back to various companies about what you are doing on the Internet. Clean up that junk and you will speed up your machine by a bunch.

Third, Defragmant your system often. The fewer cycles the disk read head on your hard drive has to make to read various programs the faster your computer will run.

Fourth, get Si Soft Sandra Software off the Internet to advise you of the various system performance improvements you can make, and tune up the performance of your system as it exists.

Fifth: Gradual System Upgrades...

Purchase and Install more RAM memory. This is available in little sticks of say 256 Mb, 512 Mb, etc. Doubling your RAM makes your system that much faster at not much cost.

Upgrade your CPU Chip. There are Plug-in CPU and Fan packages available from TigerDirect, com which will boost your system to the max your motherboard will allow. You will need a qualified tech rep to help you make the decision about what chip package to purchase, and someone with the necessary expertise to install it for you.

There is a specific speed limitation on your existing motherboard, and you cannot go much past that limitation. Should you desire to go faster than that, you will need a new motherboard which will fit into your case, and a new CPU with Fan. In some cases this upgrade will negate the usefullness of your old RAM memory chips and require you to purchase new, faster RAM memory. Purchase as much as your budget will allow. However, leave one slot open for addition of more memory later.

I HAVE DONE ALL OF THESE THINGS AND THEY
MADE MY SYSTEM WORK MUCH BETTER.

Try upgrading the Ram to the highest available. If you are maxed out on the available Ram then you are SOL.....for the most part....you can try Defragging the PC which will optimize the harddrive for better performance. Check the pc for any viruses that may be bogging it down. Check to see if you have many programs actively running at all times which may need to be turned off. If you just have a old pc you just need to get with the times and get a new one.

Get rid of everything that's on it that you don't need...clean the disk after every use, and defragment at least once every month...that should speed it up a little, but if you're already doing those things, it's time it retired

Remove any unnecessary programs. Defragment your hard drive often. Make sure you have anti-virus, firewall and spyware protection and run these often. Don't run lots of programs together. Use a light, not bloated, web browser such as firefox or opera.
