I was just wondering in our modern world of mobile phones if Truckers still used CB's or if they have been shunned in favour of blue tooth head sets.

Truck Drivers will still use CB radio. It cannot be replaced by anything we have at the moment. You cant break a break for traffic info just down the road or just chit chat to other mobiles free like you can with a CB. Plus holding a CB mic is legal unlike a mobile phone.
You can use satnav to steer clear of some road accidents or diversions but it takes a while to get through to your satnav. CB is instantaneous and local knowledge can be gleaned quite quickly.

There is a generation of youngsters that know nothing of CB radio. It is a great shame as they are missing out on some good fun. Convoy with a group of cars is also great fun and very handy... the usefulness is huge but all youngsters see these days is Internet chatrooms or mobile phones.... both of which cost in one way or another. From October this year CB licences will be free so it is without doubt the cheapest fun way of communicating wirelessly.

Mobile phones are a different tool. They are better for business things. CB is great for entertainment/info........

I have a website dedicated to CB is anyone is interested. The link is below,

10-10 I'm gone... The Magnum......

A CB is still a vital tool to "A Trucker!" There are so many "dead-spots" today, where a cell-phone, blue-tooth, and "wire-less" access are non-existent, and the cost of a satelite link are not worth the expense to a "poor-working" trucker, either!
The younger generation takes all of these "luxeries"(cell-phone, computer, blue tooth, etc...) for granted. They would become "bored" too easily if all they had to use were a CB, but it is a handy tool and for the $200.00 investment that can help you with your job, and keep you in-touch with the world outside of your cab(truck) it is "vital" to your "bottom-line"(revenue-pay).
Try it sometime, you might get "hooked" on the "squack-box, chatter-box..."

I would have guessed they no longer did, so I am surprised by the previous answers to this. But if Greg is a trucker I am sure he knows better than me. I'm glad I read this and learned something new.

Yes they do. most truckers are very nice, and courteous drivers I always flash my lights when they pass me so they know it is clear to return to right lane. some are potty mouthed on the CB and give the good guys a bad name..

Most do. I do. It can come in very handy. From an accident ahead, to find a place of delivery, to a truck stop ahead. Plus it can be a source of entertainment.
