i've been in a new job for bout three and half weeks. i don't really feel as if i'm fitting in.
i'm making loads of mistakes - i get told bout jobs that i haven't finished or things that i should have done where other staff have had to re-trace my steps.
i don't do it on purpose, but i'm worried that it's more than teething troubles and that the other staff are getting anoyed

i do have a lot of experience doing this kind of job and like doing it.

i'm not sure what to do - i've not been there too long so i don't really feel like a can chat to anyone yet.
i just want to know that i'm doing ok cos i go in thinking what am i going to do wrong today. i really don't want to be the weak link.

i hope someone can help !!

Oh I went through this a couple of jobs ago. I was making so many mistakes, I couldnt believe it. The managers kept telling me what I was doing wrong. The thing is, I had a week of training in a new field (which they knew) and basically learned by asking my cubicle mates. BUT, as others have said, it is a lack of training on the management staff's part. You have only been there for three weeks. Usually people take about amonth or so to settle in. You should sit down with your supervisor (ask them for a private chat) and just tell them " I don't know why things are going so wrong, is there any way I can sit down with someone and go over things step by step." Aer you trying to do things the way your last company did them? or are you doing things the way this company does them...If you have been messing up they shouldnt have a problem with it as long as you keep the lines of communication open. Of COURSE the other staffers are annoyed, but dont let that bother you. You are new. Make some friends, but always be careful WHO those friends are, and dont make them too good of friends either, that could also hurt your rep.

Hi there - OK don't panic - sounds to me like a lack of training from your employer. Yes you may have experience in this role, but it doesn't mean you have experience in the way that they do it. I know you said you haven't been there long enough to talk to someone, however you need to find a way to do so.

Presumbably those people who are complaining about your work, are doing so to you in a constructive way. You need to be calm and polite and say you are concerned about the mistakes you are making and could they please spend a little more time going over the role, and what their expectations of you are. Hopefully this will highlight the areas for you and make you new employer realise that you are keen you just a little more time to learn the job. Also doing a daily 'to do list' is a great way to keep on top of where you are with your work, just tick things off as you go along

Hi there, people have already said the most of what I was gonna say, don't worry and just DON'T GIVE UP! Keep on trying cos that's how you learn, you make a mistake you don't forget it and you're better next time. If the HR person in charge or your superior seem like a decent person, ask them to put aside 10minutes at the end of their day for a chat. Just say to them frankly that you're trying hard and that you're aware that there are mistakes being made, ask for their advice on how to improve and what you can do. Not only will that make them feel empowered and respected (you did ask them for their opinion) but also it will make you look good by being accountable and responsible for your actions. Maybe ask around for the most recent newest person to have joined and check with them how things go and the inside scoop on what's acceptible. Just think about it, if you like this job and you'd like to stay on for a while, you'll end up friends with these people anyway! So why not start now? good luck

Why not ask for an assessment interview with your line manager and explain that you don't feel very welcome so far, but you are anxious to sort out a few teething troubles and give satisfaction. You could ask what you could do to improve your performance and show a readiness to attend any available training courses. That will show that you are keen to make a go of things and perhaps you will win some support before things get to the stage where everyone else is grousing about you and they "have to let you go". If you can't do this, then approach one of your colleagues and ask if he/she minds your having an informal word about things. Most people are ready enough to give advice and perhaps if this person is willing to listen to you when you have a problem and help put things right then he/she will also be prepared to put in a good word for you when things aren't going so well. If it weren't for the fact that you say you enjoy doing this job, I'd say look around elsewhere.

First off -Get off the internet when you should be working!!

Second of all, these people have given you this job so they must have recognised your potential and believe you to be capable of carrying out the tasks they assign to you. So stop stressing! I am positive that they don't expect you to fit in right away, or be able to do the job from the start without a few teething problems!

It is their responsibility at this early stage to give you support and training to help you relax and feel at ease in your new role. Speak to your employer if you do not feel that they are giving you this back-up.

You can't expect to do everything right first time when you have only just started to work there -but LEARN from your mistakes, don't be afraid to ASK FOR HELP and ADMIT YOUR MISTAKES. Although you might have done something wrong, you will earn the respect of your peers by owning up.

You have the skills necessary for the job -you know this and so does your employer. it always takes time to settle into a new job, so try not to worry so much.

look, i came outta college only to go into full-time employment. I was sh!ting my self. and i made LOADS of mistakes. All you gotta do is find someone who is kinda on a level and tell them how you feel about it, theywill soon be telling someone else so then a few people in your team will know you are new and are just getting the hang of their way of doing things. If youdont want to talk to noone about it,then dont. i am so sure youwill stop doing "loads" of mistakes soon , trust me, the first month is always gonna be the hardest. loads of people have hard times adjusting to things, you are not alone. so people in your team will realise this and relate toyou.

Also, have a good breakfast, make your concentration levels higher than normal, so the little mistakes wont happen to often. and did you no, pure orange juice is the FASTEST way to get energy to your brain and body, i buy a carton and sip it all day, it keeps you awake and your concentration is high for the day. It tastes nice too, plus good if you smoke. !!

dont worry bout your job mistakes. You will soon get it right, if i can, you can, TRUST ME ON THAT ONE. I am a bit dippy sometimes and i am ok now, its been 2 months for me in my job, time, thats all it takes.

Ok you're new and it takes to adjust - thats what you're telling yourself and thats probably just all it is.
HOWEVER - how does your boss see things? I think perhaps you need to go and speak to your superior about the fact that you're having minor problems adjusting to the new work environment and that you feel they may think you are incapable of doing your job, of neglegent toward your duties. At least if you bring it to your attention - they can see that youre a concientious worker that isnt afraid to own up to mistakes.
Seriously if one of the staff that work under me came and owned up to these kind of mistakes - Id think so much of them and make allowances for their errors - oppossed to the worker that makes these mistakes and keeps their head down - Id start getting kind tired of constant errors and frown upon them.
At the end of the day - you're only human and like everyone else you're entitled to make mistakes - I would advise you to try and keep an eye on what you're doing though - and follow through on assignments in the future and Im sure you'll be back on top of things in no time! Best of luck!

Have a think about the things you do on a day to day basis and put them down on paper, if you try and do things step by step and make sure they are finished before you go onto the next thing you shouldn't have a problem. If however you are harboured by constant interruptions, perhaps you need to keep a written note of where you are up to with everything.
Another question is, have they given you satisfactory training to do the job in the first place?

OK- Pay Attention: Your new,3-weeks,your feet aren't even wet yet. You should have told us what the hell you do at your job, you would have been given much better answers - FOLLOW THESE STEPS: Outline your duties - estimate the time factor; each step it takes to complete the task!Check off the steps as you do your work - you should find your own errors or ommissions! - if that doesn't work - go to the person who hired you - be truthfull - get a grip or look for another job!

listen flower....I've been doing this job for five years and I still screw up on a daily basis!!!
Just go into work every day with a positive can do attitude and don't dwell on the mistakes...learn from them, would also help to interact with work colleagues more, maybe they have different ways of doing things that can help you!!
