Normally this doesn't happen unless the candle is allowed to burn down and there is a metal clip on the end of the wick. When the metal clip gets hot, it will crack glass very easily. Be sure and remove the metal clip, or watch you candle very closely and never let the clip get too hot.

Only some glasses will crack while candle burning & that is due to the thickness of glass.... If the glass is thick & is exposed to heat.. The inner surface(towards heat source) has a higher temperature then the outer surface temperature as glass is a bad conductor of heat... Once this happens the inner surface expands more then the outer surface which causes uneven expansion in a layer & cracks the glass.
If you put a metal spoon touching the glass it will not crack as the heat will transfered to metal spoon then to the glass as it is a good conductor of heat.....

Heat... If the flame from the candle gets the glass to hot it will burst. This happens most often when it's a hot candle in a cooler room.
