I think it is the ignorance in us. With this ignorance about the truth of life, we have all these tremendous negative desires and emotions that bring havoc's to all. We cannot see the truth that we are all human beings, our is red. Only our stupid mind created this divisions that make everybody suffer.

Depends on which problem you want to look at.

Middle East: There has always been some tension there, as it is the heart of three religions. The most recent flare ups are in large part due to the creation of Israel out of Palestine in 1948. If they had taken part of Germany and given it to the Jewish people, things would have turned out a lot differently than by taking part (almost all) of a completely uninvolved nation.

Darfur: I am not too clear on this one. I do know that part of the problem is religous strife, and I believe there is also some racial aspects to this as well, but all I ever hear is that it is a humanitarian crisis and none of the back story.

North Korea: A large part of this issue is that we (as in the US and the UN) have ignored Kim Jong Il and his cult of personality in favor of other parts of the world. I don't know what, if anything, could have been done differently to make this less dangerous though.

Global hatred of America: This falls squarely on W's sholders. His policies globally have done more to harm us than anything else. Between his gung ho attitude in Iraq and all of his actions towards the UN and other international bodies, noone has any respect for us, and our word means nothing after his "intelligence failures"

In a way, I often blame the internet and globalization. People can communicate too quickly and easily these days from any distance or location on earth. They can assemble without coming together in the same physical location. Information is available to anyone. When the internet became popular, the whole world was pretty much thrown together to deal with one another. I think that beforehand, many problems were much more localized. Now everything that happens is everyone's problem. This, along with the ease of transmitting information and ideas over distance, has caused many problems to grow disproportionately large and to spread disproportionately fast. It didn't help to have a greed-based mindset (as most people on earth seem to) when going into such a major world change as the popularization of the net.

In olden days, I am talking of world prior to atom bomb, countries could daringly agress against their neigh bours and ravage them indscriminately. The post Hiroshma world is terribly afraid of the consequences of an atomic war. This has led to indiscriminate population explosion and demand for things has escalated. There are many countries in which even food is aluxury item.
so a system of proxy wars has come up. One group of people fighting the other group. At many places the oppressing group is named as terrorist. The Bigger nations like USA and china take advantage of these groups and supply them with money arms and ammunitions to expand their tertory. USA engaged Osama to drive out Russians from Afghanistan and after the russians left Osama and his alQuaida turned against us.The whole situation has gone out of control of all nations and the UN has become a dummy organization ruled by USA. USA itself is in a mess having got into Iran not able to get out of it.China and north Korea have their own Idea of expansion. Slowly a nucleus is forming
CHINA, North Korea, Pakistan, Alquaida, Iran and other Arab nations on one side aiding and abetting each other in subversive activities and atomic and Missile development program.
The USA , England, Russia, France, Canada,Australia etc on the other side trying to keep their hold on the world. A day has to come when the clash will take place openly. after enormous carnage peace will come by itself in adead world.

Potentially lethal dictators are being minimalised by the larger military might. That's all you need to know. Well actually no, natural resources are the key> Access to oil and gas fields fuels the economy of the main players. If only they'd spread it around a bit.

American foreign policy and the Bush administration hasn't helped world stability one bit. England has had it's nose too far up America's ars*se, and it's time for us to wake-up and get-real.

The rise in Militant Islam is also a problem, but this, again, almost certainly relates to Anglo/American foreign policy.

Humans in general are starting to reap what they have sown for so many years, devastating climatic and environmental change, interference in nature, global politics and policy etc.

We still like to think that we are an intelligent life-form.... if only that were true !

Belief! Seems that everyone has a different God who demands
certain cult proceedings from their followers. This will only end
when all of us come to understand that it is all the same God
under a different name. If and when this happens, it will
lead to a mutual respect for each other and allow different
cults to hold their praise under their own commandments.

Power, money and greed. Read books by Noam Chomsky. They don't call him the premiere intellect of America for nothing.

Oh how surprising! I was convinced there'd be a huge religious codswallop rant attached to your question. Well done!
