I actually visited the Statue recently. The sculptor was Fredric Auguste Bartholdi. He used 2 models for the Lady Liberty. His mother for the face and his wife for the arms and torso.

They actually have a gentleman at Liberty Park who walks among the visitors in 1800's costume answering questions at if he were Mr. Bartholdi.

To us in America, she is our symbol of Liberty!

Lady Liberty holds up the Light of Truth, and carries the Ten Commandments, signifying Law and Justice. She has nothing to do with Alexander the Great that I know of. Where did you get your 'information'?

the Statue of Liberty was given by the French to the USA in 1886 to symbolise freedom.

It is also thought that the face of the statue ws based on the artists mother Charlotte.

Most artist do use a model for their works, but the model that was used for the statue of liberty has been lost in time. I have asked that very same question. I even wrote to the French Goverment, to get an answer to my question. They sent me a ton of research material but it seems that no one can remember who she was.... I do hope that you have better luck than I did.

Holding the torch, the torch that torched the iran library. So if you burn the books, you do not waste all your time thinking deep thoughts, and you are liberated.
