Our President told us on national television only two weeks ago that we were safer today, and that the war in Iraq was the most important element in the "War on Terror" His own intelligence agency strongly disagrees, as stated in a published report released on 9/23/06, stating that the threat of terrorism has increased due to our involvement in Iraq.

Safer? Not by a milllion miles. The 9/11 committe that Bush hand picked, gave his administration a D grade on security. If Bush truely cared about security he would have made the border issue more important immediately after 9/11. Instead the borders are still wide open and vulnerable. The republicans control everything, why is this?
The bottom line is that security is every Americans concern, it always has and always will be. Its just more important now.

1. The terrorist ranks have been growing for the past 2 decades. They grew when we withdrew from the peacekeeping mission in Lebanon after the attack on Marines. They grew after the 1st Gulf War. They grew after our retreat from Somalia. They grew after the Clinton bombings of Iraq. They grew after each terrorist attack on the US. They would have grown even if we hadn't been in Iraq. What's your point?
2. Safer. On 9/10/2001, we were obviously not very safe. Today, we have many programs in place to prevent attacks, significantly many more and much more effective. That means that we ARE safer.
3. I'm just trying to figure out why, if Clinton was such a big warrior against terrorist, why we had no surveillance mechanisms in place against terrorists and why sharing info between domestic and international intelligence services was prohibited by his administration. Perhaps someone can explain why Bush inherited no significant intelligence operations against terrorists?

If we can believe the intelligence on it then no we are not safer. I am inclined to believe it as it came from many different sources. I also noticed that the Bush administration is in high speed denial of the reports. So taking those things into consideration I would have to say no we are not safer.

I would say we have done a good job of keeping the terrorists OVER THERE instead of over here at least. However, we will never be safe until Muslims stop breeding and preaching hatred - the war in Iraq has nothing to do with why they are so twisted.

theyre prepareing the fear machine to condition the american people to expect another terror attack to justify attacking iran .... this is not fact but a very high probability ... you should not be fearing these "terrorists" but you SHOULD be terrified of the administration planning to murder more american citizens to keep there political agenda ball rolling in the middle east. .. the bottom line i think, is that if you feel safer in todays world you are living in a fantasy world .....

Well, there are over a BILLION Muslims out there. Many of them are very nice people. That leaves more that a few who would like to make dawg-meat out of YOU. They have been there for over a thousand years, but now we are realizing that we have to defend ourselves and others against the terrorists among them. Welcome to the real world and its new GLOBAL problems.

We were the recipient of many terror attacks before 9/11. Haven't seen any since. That's not to say they aren't planning any.

There are no more training camps and their money has been cut drastically. The ability to carry out large attacks has been diminished greatly. The whole world is now aware and watching.
I would say we are safer. We may not be more loved but then again we never really were.
