No, he didn't. Gas prices are coming down because BP was forced to fix their pipeline in Alaska or face multi million dollar fines. So I guess in that aspect, you could say the government did have a part in it. They realized it'd be cheaper to fix it than pay the fines, so the pipeline is functional again.
Also, it's been reported several times recently that all the rigs in the Gulf are back in operation after the damage from last years hurricanes. They're at 100% effectiveness.
With all these repairs, we have enough to meet demands now.
EDIT: HAHA This cracks me up. I presented honest facts that anyone can look up and I get thumbs down. You idiots who believe Bush is all about oil need to wake up. He has no control over gas prices. It's set by our own reserves, OPEC and other factors. Get off your conspiracy theories and check out some real facts for a change.

No, the oil company's lowered the price of oil brough gas prices down, but if it an election year thing to keep the ones in power that allowed them to raise them we will soon find out after November 7 when we vote. The prices will climb up again over some little incident.

The fact that Cheney went behind closed doors with the top oil executives to set the nations policies on energy proves they are in the pockets of big oil. I spent 10 years in the refining industry, I find it unprecedented the way the gas prices have fallen, typically it would take three times longer for prices to fall this far in a normal way. Lending credence to the idea that the oil exec’s are manipulating the price for political reasons. It is certainly not beyond the scope of possibilities.

President Bush has no authority over the oil companies. I think, however, that since this administration (especially Cheney) has favored big business and especially the oil companies, they do have an influence over them.
It does not seem coincidental that gas prices came down so precipitately just a couple of months before the election.

I believe it was largely because the oil companies just reported record-breaking profits while the whole country is paying over double the price that gas was three years ago. It's harder to rape people when they're staring you in the face!

The president himself?
Doubtful. he's too busy trying to figure out how to lie in response to the intelligence estimate about the war in Iraq INCREASING our terrorism risk.
The oil companies on the other hand would LOVE to keep the GOP in control of congress so they can continue raking in the cash, so they don't have to deal with pollution and environmental issues, so they can maybe drill in land reserved for wildlife...

If the President had any power to do this, don't you think that every other leader around the world who also experienced the rise in prices would have been over here begging our President to do something? No....OPEC sets the price.

he sure did. He didn't do this to appease americans. the reason is obvious, election day is arriving soon. prices will continue to go down. republicans attempt these politically-driven acts to get them re-elected. It's sad because America cannot take any more republican BS. look at the polls kiddies. big changes are coming soon. FINALLY!
