I have a tree that is rotting and need to get it trimmed at least, probably cut down. It is about three stories tall.

I recently had a huge tree cut down and it cost me about $300 not including stump grinding/removal. For another tree, different species but about the same size, the guy gave me a price of about double that. He explained that some trees are softer and lighter, while others are more difficult to cut and otherwise deal with. Also said something about the wear and tear on his machine that turns the trunk into wood chips.

Depending where you are located, you may need a municipal permit to cut down a tree, and if whoever cuts down the tree leaves it at the curb instead of grinding it up you might face a small pick-up fee from your municipality.

For some reason, the prices I was given to trim trees were almost as much as the cost to cut them down! When I thought about it though, it kind of makes sense -- just as much time is involved because they have to make sure they leave it looking good and not as though it had been butchered.

It depends where you live. I am speaking about 100 North of New York City. Recently I wanted to have 8 trees cut down. The cost was between $5,000-$7,000. for the job. Individually the least expensive was $780.00. I had 4 companies come for an estimate. These were for large trees.

You are looking at about £2000 plus. Make sure that the trees have not got a preservation order on them as well. We have to put up with a large Scots Pine that blocks the light and leaves its mess in the 7 gardens of the houses it lives in the middle of. The council says it is a benefit to the community! the bloody thing blocks out the sun for 3hours a day from my garden it overhangs. Good luck anyway.

Depends. There are many variables. Location, ease to get at the tree, kind of tree, what is around the tree, (power lines house fence).
Cost at least a couple hundred bucks, up to maybe double that. Depends.

Very expensive - a lot depends on how close it is to houses, utility wires, etc. My parents just had a big maple taken down and I think it cost almost $600.00!!
