You should propose to her if and only if you are willing to spend the rest of your life with her. THE REST OF YOUR LIFE. That is over 40 years, dude. If you are not ready to do this, then move in with her, you can ask her to marry you, but set a date for a few years down the road, get to know each other.

I think you are the only one that can answer that ! You know when it is time with how you feel for her. Now i love ideas on how to ask but please be sure you are ready to get married. You could take her out to diner& propose then. Or you could make it something she likes . What is it she enjoys? Take her there & pop the ? in front of everyone. Maybe on Thanksgiving around the family.Just put your heart into it fully & you find the right place & time to do it all. Good luck!

When you are convinced that you'll never be able to have voluntary sexual relations with another woman again, and you've resigned yourself to accept the fact that 1/2 of everything you own really belongs to her, and you're tired of living and just want to settle down as a domesticated and pussy-whipped man; at that point you should marry her.
Propose to her by buying an overpriced piece of carbon which was probably produced by slave labourers and presenting it to her in your local Italian eatery where the illegal and undocumented Salvadorian help can applaud your action but secretly know that as soon as she tires with you she'll be looking for someone younger to satisfy her.

You should ask her to marry you when you feel you are ready to take that step.
If you saying that you know that you want to marry her and you just want suggestions of when/how etc here's a few.
If you have a certain artistic talent like music, photography, poetry etc. be sure to use that in your plan.
Ask her to go out to dinner and act casual. When you're done with dinner take her to your place where you've already set it up in a romantic way--ie soft light, flowers etc. This is where your talent comes in. If you are a photographer, set up a large, romantic picture that you've taken, if you can sing, then sing to her etc. . etc. . . Then get down on your knees, tell her how much she means to you, and how much you would love to spend the rest of your life with her and pop the question.
