As a woman, we should be able to come up with umpteen 'reasons'---not just 'excuses'. But for a man, it's rather tough. Sorry, this answer is not much of a help!

I have a good work ethics. I don't call in unless I absolutely have to...(I can always use the money)
When I do call in, it's generally because I have a migraine and can hardly see straight or move. If they get mad, oh well. Not my fault. I certainly didn't do this to myself.

My boss wouldnt even believe me if i was dying. He didnt believe that one of the girls broke her leg. She was using crutches and a zimmer frame

I usually say it's something intestinal. Most people don't want to hear about that sort of thing. They just assume it's bad if you're calling in becuase of it, and don't want details.
