Many times a starting teacher will make about $28,000 where a teacher with 20 years in will make about $60,000. Many teachers are on what is called a "Step" program where they increase their salary by years of service and level of education. The average teacher probably makes a salary in the mid $40's.

You can visit www.payscale.com and take their survey. At the end of the survey you will get the average salary for one teaching job, then you can do a "what if" scenario and get the salary for the other teacher. What is really cool about the site, is that it also considers what experience and teaching certifications you may have. So, it gives you an accurate salary for a teacher with your experience.

It will highly depending on your location (i.e. state education board) and teachers union.
I suggestion that you contect them to find out the real scoop, consult http://swz.salary.com/salarywizard/layouthtmls/NY/swzl_compresult_state_NY_ED03000010.html which incorporate your locale before giving you data.
Best wishes.
