Ive had my nipples pierced for about 5 years (both of them). I know You're not suppose to keep the jewlery in while feeding the baby because they could choke. What I was wondering is....anyone who has theirs pierced or knows someone who has them pierced, were you able to keep the piercing while breast feeding, or is it just too much of a pain in the a$$, or are they just too sensitive to keep taking them out and putting them back in? Ill take them out if I have to, but Ive had them so long I feel naked without them. Thanks.

Before everyone jumps down my throat about this, I wanted to add that I did ask the piercer at the time about breast feeding and he said I could still breast feed. If I was being selfish as some of you said, I wouldnt be doing the research, and asking for others opinions.

Personally I have not had a this done but if I was you i think i would go ahead and take them out. Your breast will be fairly sore the first few weeks of nursing and you are not going to want to deal with the rings and nursing. lets face it your a mom now and the nursing should come first. This doesn't mean get them redone later if you want.
Also I would be a bit worried about infection or clogged milk ducts. I understand that you would clean the rings before taking them in or out but milk will pool around them and would be a wonderful place for bacteria to harbor or yeast which can be passed to the baby( warm, dark , moist enviroment) and cleaning the breast to much isn't good for the baby or your tissue, it could cause dry skin and cracking not something you need. I know it feels like you are having to give up alot already for your baby, but you knew that was going to happen so embrace motherhood and you can be the cool mom in a few years. Save that open mindedness for when little one want to get a piercing or dye hair crazy. Good luck.

It would probably be best to take them out since they could have germs and such. It would probably also hurt to put them in and out at least when you first start breastfeeding because your nipples will already be sore from starting to breastfeed. Maybe the best bet would be to take them out then get them repierced after you wean your baby. You could also talk to your doctor and ask if he knows anything about breastfeeding with nipple rings. Also don't worry about all the people calling you irresponsible. I don't see how your question would make you look irresponsible I think it's a good question for someone with their nipples pierced I also think your brave I could never get mine pierced I'm to much of a chicken.

Dear Little Lady, its nice to hear that you are Brest Feeding, not many do it these days. About the rings, think this, in your first half of life you had rings, and now you have a baby, after some time you feel naked with out your baby. :)

I say take them out your baby could get some kind of infection because bacteria and germs stay on the rings do whats best for your baby and make sure you boobs are always clean before you breastfeed you wouldnt want to eat from a dirty plate would you.

My friend is within a month of her due date & asked about that. Her doctor said to take them out now so the hole could close prior to breastfeeding. Her doc said this is the best, safest, & healthiest way to breastfeed. She can get them done again after weaning. I believe the doc said the holes would have an impact on the milk coming out. Not sure about that part. Hope this helps! (She did take them out, by the way)

might be time to grow up and be a real responsible mother and adult. Loose the nipple rings, its just common sense.
