It depends.
Sometimes to make sure they learned how to do better next time.
Sometimes to make sure they understand how the mistake impacted someone/something else if it was thoughtless and they seem clueless about that.
Sometimes to increase efficiency and eliminate waste (usually on jobs.)

So they don't repeat them! Sometimes the urge to do something inside you is very strong but it could also be very wrong. You're enabled to not repeat the mistake through your intelligence and will. Sometimes it takes another person to just point it out!

One reason might be in case they come across a situation like that again, they could prevent another mistake from happening.

So you can feel superior to them............not really, it's just to keep them from repeating their mistakes. Some people don't even realize they have goofed up.

It lets them know that you are much smarter and would have done something completely different. Kind of "kicking them when they are down" type of move!
