I don't know the "Truman Show".. but as for controlled non-incarceration environments i.e. people volunteering to go into a tightly controlled environment, examples that occur to me are when people go to a sleep study centre for sleep research; astronauts in space; explorers in the Antarctic; people who go voluntarily into a mental institution; to a greater or lesser degree, any private boarding school and any ashram or monastery -- the more tight-knit the community, the more disciplined and self-disciplined the monastics are likely to be.... you could take a look also at Sathya Sai Baba's school and his college in Whitefield near Puttaparthi, Andhra Pradesh, India.
