As a newly minted Empty-Nesting Single Parent (and Military Retiree), I am doing my chores, doing my exercises, and getting prepared to go outside to help do some work on my sibling's farmhouse -- because for the first time in my life, I am FREE of responsibility for others (including the Mentally Ill ex-spouse, and my children who inherited his family's mental illnesses), and I can start relaxing and NOT having to count sharps in the drawers all the time, not having to fix things that anger/violence breaks, and not having to worry about being attacked during an 'episode' of their mental illnesses.
I NEEDED this as I am getting older, and I need to be able to have some time to myself with SANE folks around me and where I do NOT have to worry about whether or not I will be attacked or have to deal with a violence issue at any moment.
THAT is what I am doing now -- FINALLY I am relaxing, but I am still working hard -- just now doing what I WANT to do instead of what I NEED to do to keep the mentally ill out of problems and cared for.
