"3"
x4y3 (x)(y)(4) 3
--------- = --------------- = 3
xy4 (x)(y)(4)
The (x), The (y), and The (3) from Top and Bottom cancel each other out:
(4)/(4) is a fraction - you have four parts of four total = 1
The same applies for not only constant numbers, but your variables (x)(y) as well.
So, when dividing top and bottom by the same number, they cancel out to equal 1. The only number remaining that doesn't cancel is "3"
So "3" is your answer.

When you are doing division with exponents you want to subtract the exponent.
i.e.
say x5y6/xy3 x(5-1)y(6-3) then you'll get your answer
x4y3 Hope this helps good luck.

But at some stage your teacher is going to find out that although you got the homework right, you don't really know how to do it. So what then?
