What is the risk, concern regarding pregnancy and x-rays?

It's always "possible" that I could be pregnant. I am late, LIKE always and I have x-rays this afternoon?

I get x-rays once every 3 months, so we always have this issue.

I was pregnant (very early like days) when I had a cholangegram. (not important what it is-pictures of your common bile duct)
Anyhow, the radiation was way more than a few xrays.

No one knew I was pregnant, I was on medication and tested by blood.

They did not take any extra precautions with me in covering my abdomen. And my DD is now almost 2 and she is (knock on wood) healthy!

HOWEVER, from a medical standpoint if you go for xrays every few months like you stated I would speak with your doctor about your concerns!

Why so many x-rays? I would not have an x-ray if I thought I was pregnant. I would talk to your doctor about this issue. The exposure to radiation is something I am not comfortable with even though I am not trying to have any more children.

An x-ray won't hurt your baby. However, you don't want to make it a habit if you are pregnant. It takes quite a bit of radiation to cause a defect. I was pregnant and didn't know it. I had 3 x-rays, anesthesia, and surgery. I even took pain meds! She came out perfect 5 mos. later!

I was told by plenty of doctors that there's no risk. They said that they are build not to affect the baby. But if you are concerned about this don't do any x rays unless you feel something's wrong.

I know doctor's seem to freak out if someone pregnant getting an xray, especially over the abdomen. I had an xray of my abdomen (that is how they discovered I was pregnant). It didn't harm my daughter. I always kidded that the radiation made her hair grow, in the womb. It was shoulder length. But seriously, she has no disability or nothing wrong with her.

If you feel there is a chance that you can be pregnant and have to have x-rays, they can put a heavier shield on you to stop it from being able to cause any harm.
