That's kind of hard to say because it's different for everyone, I know of some people who say they have just stopped, just like that, then there are those like me, myself who know it's time to stop and want to stop but, have not found anything to help, some people say the gum works for them, then there are those who used the patches to stop, I have even heard some say that they were hypnotized and that worked for them, I think some people have strong will power while others do not, so try a little of this & that til you find your way to work it, and if you do find the right way, come back and share it with us, it may help me and others who have not found the right way to stop yet.....Good Luck

I smoked for 10 years, I tried patches etc.. nothing worked till I was really ready to. I told my brother my delema and he said it's all in your head. I took that advice over trying the patch again and just relized I was stronger then the addiction. From that day forth I have never smoked again! Things to remember once you quit smoking... You can NEVER take a puff or have only "one" it will NEVER work that way. When you quit it has to be for good. The first week is a nightmare and it will take a few months before the craving really goes away. Quiting smoking is the best thing I have ever done for myself and im so glad I did it when I did. Keep yourself occupide when you quit smoking, don't get to bar's or other places where people may be smoking during this time. Good Luck to you!

since you smoke that much everyday, your body got adjusted having these poisons running ur body. That's why people with more serious drug problems can actually die by quiting abruptly. You hav to take decrease your amount of cigarettes maybe every few weeks or whatever you're comfortable with. The reason why you were coughing and stuff (tryign to not smoke) was because your body was so used to having 2-5 cigarettes a day. So each week you should decrease slowly from 2-4cigarettes, then another few weeks, 2-3, then so on.

The best way to quit smoking is to firmly make your mind about it,the good will power and firm resolve to quit is half the battle won. Then comes the medical part of it,you can have some withdrawl or craving symptoms which can be controlled by nicitine gums available at drug stores, which can be tapered of gradually. You can also make some club or self help group to fight the addiction collectively.

Do the following steps:
1/ Speak EVERYDAY once u wake up so that u can hear yourself : I WILL NOT SMOKE today bec I dont want to smoke.
2/ take a decision /action now : I will not smoke today just bec I WILL NOT from today.
(even if you find difficult to leave keep doing steps 1 and 2)
3/ Repeat 1, 2, and 3 for 1 week, then 2 weeks(leaving the past 1 week), then 3weeks (leaving the 2weeks).
-------
spread the above steps to all smokers.!!
Good wishes.
I will be happy to hear from you. I am sure your reply is going to be : I have quit smoking.
Happy smoke-free life in a smokers era!!!

I am a Hospice volunteer and my patient is a 70 year old with COPD (fancy word for emphysema). She smoked for 50 years and now the poor thing is tethered to a long oxygen tube. She can't walk 3 feet without gasping for breath. She is trapped in her house. Having COPD is like trying to breathe through a straw--that is all the air you can get in and out of your lungs and she struggles to breathe every day. She told me she would sell everything she has for a new set of lungs. The fear of not being able to breathe is terrible for her. Eventually, her heart will give out from the struggle and it will be over. What is the point of sucking down all the poisons that are in a cigarette? Quit as soon as you can. There are shots you can get to help you. COPD killed my father. Get help!

Its easy to preach..but difficult to practise..thats what they say..
An easy way to stop smoking ..I will tell you..One day visit the cancer ward of the leading cancer hospital near to your city. There if you see the sufferings each and every patient undergo, automatically the urge will come into us for stopping this nonsense of smoking and gutkha..Because 95% of these patients suffering from the cancer of the oral cavity do give a history of gutkha chewing..or smoking ......
Believe me..I used to smoke nearly 20 cigarettes per day about 10 years back...Then I had this habit of chewing Gutkha..Everything I could stop abruptly on a fine morning...If you have the will power ..you can do that...
Its possible man..don't say NO..
say YES...come out off it..TODAY..and NOW !

I quit cold turkey, instead of smoking I would exercise, go for a long walk to build your lungs back up. If you get the hungry horrors just eat healthy like fruits and veggies. It worked for me and I have been smoke free for 3 years. Good luck
