I think they do, but I don't know what can be done about it. Parents are responsible for keeping their children away from things that are not good for them. So hopefully that's all that's needed for most kids. But we all know that many parents do not keep their kids away from violent video games.
I know it has been argued that the fantasy world and the "real" world are separate, and kids who indulge in violence in movies, TV or video games use that method of channeling their aggressions and so may arguably be less violent. But I think a distinction is made for strategy games that really involve the mind, in which violence is depicted for realism sake, but which are about the strategy. If the strategy is simple-minded, and the violence is very realistically portrayed, then that really is the point of the game. Those are the ones that should be kept away from kids too young to distinguish clearly between imagination and reality.
Kids need to evaluate these things for themselves when their parents don't do it for them. If the whole thing is about the blood and gore, then it's just de-sensitizing you to violence and pain, and that is very dangerous. You should feel somewhat sick when you see violence, and if you lose that edge, you may lose your judgment as to what is appropriate and what is not.
Do you always, always play the hero (defense) rather than the villain (offense) in such games? Or does playing the villain give you a kick? Don't you think that's dangerous, mentally?

On some games, playing voliet video games does make kids act violently...then again so does they act voliently on other violent media.
As far as I know, media is a form of audio and/or visual content that is used for enternaiment (at least what it means to me). Like
T.V, Music, Movies, Books, Live entainment, and Video games.
And of course kids, at a young age, act like their hero on T.V, Movies, and Video Games...this can be dangerous if the hero were from a volient content.
Livewise to all media...as times of leaniunicy and cencorship is all but frogotten in the present, so has the volient and explict content incresesed in most media. Nowadays you see at least miminal sexual content in music and/or the music videos over 70%, Many volient movies overshadowing the average movie theathers as well as on T.V. Which of course leads to Video games (playable media). As volient content begin to increased, so has the pouplarly with adults, since adults play video games more than kids...so I guess that's T and M rated games overshadow the market(which increased the rate for kids to act volient). The only E rated games you see nowadays is vidoe games based on Movie, T.V., and Sports(seriously...did you ever see a E rated game that is not T.V, Movie, and/or sport related...EVER).
As of this day as a gauradin and a current gamer...learning these things is a big respondiblity. I choose Nintendo games because of the slection of fun games. I have also blocked out news channels(because of all they do is to tell bad news) and all music stations...or what they call themselfs anyway(like MTV...it not music at all even above 20% and explict shows) and may other shows on T.V.

No, they don't cause kids to act violently. Using that as an excuse only takes blame off the mind of the person who commits a crime, instead of keeping it on the person doing it. If it were true that entertainment causes people to commit violent acts, then everyone would be raving psychos. Did the woman who murdered a pregnant woman a few days back play a video game that made her desire to do so? No. Does every kid who listens to Marilyn Manson commit suicide? Nope. Do all men who watch Rambo movies paint themselves with camoflage makeup and go on killing sprees in a jungle? Nuh-uh. It's entertainment. Our entertainment doesn't make us do anything. Our mind and conscience (or lack thereof) is what makes us commit acts of cruelty or decency.

As long as the child has been properly taught the difference between right and wrong, the game has no impact on how the child will act in the real world--which, of course, lays the responsibility on the parents. If there is no parental support to reinforce the fact that shooting people is wrong, or that crashing into someone else's car is wrong, then the child will have no ability to determine what is ok to do in a game as opposed to what is ok in real life--and there is no difference between this and movies/TV/Books/etc.

Indirectly yes. The violence in video games help kids lose their moral compass and they begin to feel less towards people. They begin to use less "helpful" means to deal with stressful situations in their life and they turn to violence to get their point across. Don't assume i mean strictly physical violence. Verbal abbuse is the main symptom and the far gone ones exhibit physical voilence. If you want proof, go to any school and watch people to see how they behave to the slightest provocation.

i think the pictures they see, affect them mostly. i play a violent type game online, but its all words, and different choices you make. there are no pictures or images. so i think it takes out the violent nature of it. and its played with other online people. and everyone is civil to each other.

Don't be stupid. If that was the case, compare it to, say, voilent movies. Kids watch tonnes of voilent movies and no one bats an eyelid.
You have stupid kids that do something moronic it's easy to blame a videogame, they don't defend themselves. The real answer is their parents, friends and social background.
