Apparently, he's pretty popular in his country among the lower classes, at least. They think he's a hero. You say he hasn't done anything for the poor. You could be right. Have you looked into this, Polly?

Let's apply your words to Chavez's 'noble adversary':
Why do people think 'Honest George' is a hero?
First off he doesn't even speak coherent English, which is a symbol of his lack of intelligence and knowledge.
Second off, he only does what the wealthy of the world likes..
so he is really a pandering whore.........a cheap American politician.......a dime a dozen.......nothing special.
Thirdly, people don't know about how corrupt and slimy the man is.
He uses his humanitarian BS as a political platform.
He cares nothing for the poor people of his country (as one can see from the aftermath of Katrina)
He is an uneducated thug type ruler....he has huge oil and other shady connections among other things.
Are people in this country sick?
Also:
He is a murky past concerning alcohol and drug abuse.
He has a huge problem recognising and/or telling the truth.

Um you say he is uneducated he is not. He is the son of teachers for God sake. He was elected with 56 percent of the vote the first time and in the mid 70s next time I believe. He had a 95 percent voter turn out who agreed with him, when he wanted to change the constitution of that country. He renogiated the contracts with conoco philips and exxon mobil so they would pay his country their fair share of taxes. He developed a literacy program, he has done alot of good for the poor of that country.
Now did you take the time to actually learn anything about Hugo Chavez or did you just make assumptions based on the fact he is from a south american country, so therefore he must have " mafia drug connections" and be a street thug. With comments like this you just show how ignorant the majority of US citizens are.

Hugo Chavez is a man who fears he will be assassinated by the United States government. He has good reasons to be afraid. This man, the President of Venezuela, wants to re-distribute the wealth of the state-owned oil company. Indeed, he has a point. Why should the coffers of the few take precedence over the hands of the many ? So he becomes an agent of change: he extirpates the old guard and brings in the new, replacing established management boards, breaking ties to the old political system. This causes a stir in the White House, as the political machine is alerted to this disturbance in American interests. Chavez holds up a book and begins to pronounce the title, 'A Eulogy to Globalization'. "It's the neo-liberals who are anti-global," he says, "it is they who will end up destroying the world."
Chavez's promises to institute a democratic socialism, to restore the political process by inviting the common people to participate, to make people aware of their rights, to forge a new political will for the country and - most dangerous of all, to re-distribute the country's wealth to the general populace. All this is met with skepticism and invective in the world media. The cable news networks and power-brokers try to hasten his demise by naming him with the crudest of insults and insinuations: sexual deviance, communism, insanity, terrorism. These attempts at character assassination appear not to be true, but they are hurled at him all the same: he is a non-White who has emerged from non-traditional political channels, he was a revolutionary who was formerly imprisoned under an oppressive political system - this is inconceivable to almost all Americans.
Better to keep the people unorganized and ill-informed, mis-educated and disconnected - that's the most profitable of circumstances for the corporate world. Switch on CNBC and they will inform you of the dangers that will arise if oil does not continue it's upward spike, reveling in anticipation of another record-setting quarterly profit statement from Exxon. All the same, I wonder if I am repeating a similar error made decades ago after the rise of Fidel Castro. I consider him to be an oppressor. It is my hope that Chavez does not become the same.

The only people that thinks Hugo Chavez are the unintelligent, hate mongers, of the USA, that would love to destroy the government of the USA. I think that it is only the little minority that want to have something for nothing and if they follow the Chavez's of the world they will find that it is the path laden with sorrow and despair. They should go to his country and really see the devastation he has wielded against his own country.
The only sick people of this country are the uneducated people that follow the half educated leaders, just like Chavez.

Does Bush address the leaders of other nations in their native language? He is not a hero, just an outspoken man who is appealing to many who also hate Bush.
