I dont think there really is a SAFE period to have sex with out protection. Just depends on how "fertil" the women is. I believe a couple weeks before her period is the most fertil, but she could get pregnant anytime. Hope things go OK for ya.

I always used this method -
The 14th thru the 16th day from the beginning of your last period are your most fertile days. I always used protection from the 13th thru the 17th just to make sure. This method always worked for me but the best thing is to use protection if you don't want to get pregnant.
