Not likely to happen soon, but look at history and you see all the great empires run their course, and get overtaken. Egypt, Persia, Greece, Rome, Spain, France and England. Keep an eye on India and China the next decade.

Actually, the was a small but inciteful minority that called the disintigration of the USSR. Most people made fun of us in the late 1970's and early 1980's.

The USSR came apart at the seems because ultimately, the various parts of it were not well served. The economic and political structures empowered an elite central organization and population, whereas outlying areas did not receive any material advantage. There was no reason to stay together and ultimately, cohesion was untenable.

The modern USA is not a traditional empire. Although able to project overwhelming military and economic resources, Americans do not "conquor" in the traditional sense. They tend to pay for what they take, they tend to improve the lot of the countries where they do business, and most conspicuously, they do not move massive numbers of their low and middle classes to reside in the areas the invade.

Also, other powers beneift equally from American vanguard actions, ie, European and Asian economies benefit from US economic and military interventions. therefore, there is less need for potential rising powers to directly compete with America rather than simply "ride their coat tails".

America may well fall from sole super power status in the coming decades, but it will likley be a century or more before they are replaced.

India and China have only a very narrow window of opportunity to achieve apex dominance before demographic and changes wrought by global warming overwhelm their political and economic systems.

2025-2035 should be the key decade.
