The quickest and easiest way is to dig up the old stuff and buy some of the grass that is already grown and rolled up. You just lay it out and it grows.

Well first, are you going to put the pool back there next year? If so then I wouldn't bother, or spread sand in the area to make it softer under for the kids. If not it is fall and the best time to plant grass seed. By a hearty seed and follow the directions. Be sure to keep up on the watering and you will have it back in no time.

Get a rake and rough up the soil so that it is somewhat loose and then throw down some winter rye grass seed. After the grass seed is down throw straw on top and water every day for the first week. You should start to see germination in about 10-14 days or so.

I would get some grass seed, spread it on and then spray water onto the seeded patch.. I do not know the condition of the soil but maybe a light spreading of Scotts turf builder would be in order

Do you own a pair of golf shoes? Put them on and walk around the area for a while to aerate the grass. Then overseed heavily, and make sure to water well, preferably with a sprinkler. In one week your grass will be looking fine. And fall happens to be the best time to do this!!

Many people burn the dead grass off and simply let it grow back in. Usually after doing this it comes back very green and thick. Just make you you can contain the fire and not let it reach out of the area you are trying to regrow.
