You can use anything pretty much. You can have it cleaned by carpet cleaners or use a machine yourself with an upholstery attachment. Try carpet stain removers or clothing stain removers, see what works best. Some stains wont come out as with anything but it's also harder because you cant just throw it in the washer.

If it is a light colored mattress you can use clorox cleanup! It works very well on all kinds of stains. You may get a lighter spot on the mattress but it beats the embarassing stain. If it can't be bleached try using Oxyclean, that works well on new stains.

Use a bissel or other hand upholstery steam cleaner. It will help to remove stains AND odors even if someone make a ...."mistake" while sick or something. Something that is vinegar based is excellent. Your bed may smell like a caesar salad for a day or two, but the vingar will neutralize the odor. The use a linen spray to make it fresh.

You can try using laundry prewash solution. Spray onto mattress, wait few minutes and dab slightly wet cloth /sponge onto it repeatedly until it soaks and removes the stain.
Of course if the stain is fresh it is easier to remove it.

I never try this but if your mattress is white, you can try your luck with bleach pen.

Assuming it is your own mattress I would go with the carpet cleaner. If you don't have access to one of the machines then I have had good results with Resolve.
If it is a used mattress from someone else I'd pitch it.
